Counters and Chickens

Dave has been refinishing our vanity in our bathroom all week, it was a very dark stain to begin with and so we just went one step darker which was Ebony. Black. But it looks really nice!! Then we went to go and get a new countertop and of course it was not a "stock" size, so we decided to try and tile it, I'd never tiled before but was up for the challenge. So Dave ripped the old formica off and reinstalled the counter. I washed it up and got it ready.
I smeared the adhesive across it and laid down the tile.
Then started grouting it
The semi-finished product. All cleaned up. We're letting it set up fully and then we'll install our new sink and faucet. We've got to get the trim tiles and the front ones too. I'm really happy with how it turned out. I may just try to do our kitchen since it was so easy.
We also ordered 25 meat chickens to start for our next project. I'm excited to see them grow and also have fresh chickens that we know what they were fed and how they were treated. I'll post once they get here.

"Farm School"

Today Janna and I took our kids out to my moms for a "farm school" day. We got there just after 8 and started right in. We fed the cow and horses up by the house then we headed down to the barn and fed the lambs, their mommas, the ram and the calves down there. Then we went to the pig pen and all 4 of the kids jumped in the pen and chased them around. We want some lean pork this fall right? After they chased them we watered them down and ran the hose in the dirt to make them some mud pits to lay in and cool down. After that we headed to the chicken coop to feed and water the chickens and collect eggs. They found 7 eggs!! We headed up to the house so the kids could play on the playground and us mommas chatted for a bit. Then I went and got Jo the horse out of the pasture and put her bridle on with a leadrope and walked her out. All the kids got a turn to ride her bareback which they just LOVED! We went inside while the kids continued to play and started lunch. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, carrot sticks, Smart Puffs, animal crackers and fruit roll-ups. The kids played some more, then we headed down to check the eggs again and found 13 more!! The kids were so cute, opening each laying box and checking to see how many we'd find. After that I realized I hadn't taken any pictures so I broke out the camera and here is what we did next!
Walking Yogi the lamb
Henry's turn
Rowan took a turn too!
Playing in the hay loft...
Silly faces!!

After that we headed back up to the house to write thank you letters to my mom. They played inside where it was cool for a while. We cleaned up and headed back outside for popsicles and picking things up out there. We packed everything and everyone up and headed home.
We had a great time, surprisingly the boys never fell asleep, I'm sure pooped!! Thanks again mom for letting us come out to "DDonnas farm" we had the best time!!

Toothpicks and beans

The other day Dave told the boys a story about their Great Grandpa Paul (one of Pauls namesakes) and how he'd always have toothpicks in his mouth. Well the boys thought it was great and since have had a toothpick in their mouths at random times. Its really cute!

Today we were out in the garden and found some beans, they are so yummy and crispy. Add this to the list of veggies Jon loves, he got so upset when he'd drop it!

Picking beans.
Tonight I was looking in Jons mouth, much to his dismay and saw a small white bud, we're going to have a tooth soon!!

Mozzarella and Potatoes

Today I tried my hand again at making mozzarella and it turned out!! Its yummy and was so much fun to make! I'll have to keep practicing and make other kinds too! The other day I noticed we had some volunteer potatoes in our garden I was pulling out the broc plants that were going to seed and I saw something red, so I dug around and it was a handful of red potatoes, I brought them and washed them up, they were delicious!!

Its been so hot lately here, thank goodness for our a/c. The garden is loving this heat though! All of my plants have taken off like crazy!!
Dave is back to work now so I'll go through our pictures and get some posted later.

Bubbles and Milk

What could be more fun then bubbles? The kids love them so much! Heck, the cat even loves them!! I found a bubble machine new, still in the box at Goodwill a few weeks ago. Thought it was a steal for 5 bucks!! Brought it home and put batteries in it, push the on button, nothing. Nothing at all. I was so bummed. Since then its been sitting on my counter to be brought back to Goodwill. Today I was cleaning the kitchen and was about to throw it into the bag to take back to Goodwill and thought, hmmm..I'll try and unscrew the screws and see whats inside. So I did and couldn't find anything. Well there were more screws to unscrew. So I took some more out and found two pieces of wires that should have been sautered together had come apart. I finagled it and was able to attach it again and get it working!! Guess I am kinda handy to have around the house huh babe? ;)
We also got our first order of milk, butter and 1/2 and 1/2 from Noris Dairy. Its sooooooooooo yummy!! The don't deliver it out here to our house but a nice gal from a google group I'm in said she was going to order and I could go in on her order with her. It was so nice of her! I have to drive to her house each week to get it, its not terribly far but for this yummy milk its so worth it!!
